When moving out, if the property manager finds anything at fault, such as property damages or uncleanliness, the renter may not be refunded their security deposit. There are several things the renter will want to consider to ensure they receive their security deposit, beginning with a move-in inspection.

Move-in inspections should be conducted by both the tenant and property manager. They are conducted to make sure any prior damages or malfunctioning equipment/utilities are documented so that the tenant is not held responsible. It also allows for anything that may be wrong with the property to be fixed by scheduling maintenance.
